Sri Lanka's Ministry of Tourism sources reveal that a successful tourism campaign in neighboring India has caused a sharp increase in the number of Indian tourists traveling to Sri Lanka this year.

According to Ministry statistics, the arrival of Indian tourists has risen by 22% compared to 2005. Sri Lanka expects the tourist arrival from India in this year to bring in Rs. 600 million in foreign exchange.
A special media campaign titled 'Small Island – A Great Tour' was launched in Indian electronic and print media this year. The Sri Lankan Ministry of Tourism hopes to conduct similar promotion campaigns in other countries as well with the assistance of United Nations programmes.
