Development works with Indian assistance

Several development works in Sri Lanka, including the southern railway extension will be launched with the assistances of India. A discussion between the foreign affairs officials of India and Sri Lanka was held in New Delhi in this regard.

The ministers led by President visiting India had a meeting with the Indian team chaired by Foreign Minister Pranab Mukarji and discussed regarding an economic development agreement between India and Sri Lanka.

Development of civil air transport between the two countries, southern railway construction with 100 million dollar loan scheme of India, two thermal power plants in Trincomalee, set up of a information technology park, Dickoya hospital development, Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship for upcountry students and boats for fishermen are the matters taken up for discussion. The economic development agreement will be in force from January 2007.
