There is no military solution for the ethnic problem. But the government is determined to defeat the LTTE militarily. The President has instructed the Chairman of the All Party Representatives Committee, Minister Tissa Vitherana to present a devolution package acceptable to all sections as soon as possible, said the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Minister Maithripala Srisena in the House yesterday.

President Mahinda Rajapakse summoned Minister Tissa Vitharana last night and requested him to submit the political package, which should include a devolution package acceptable to all sections. The motive of the government is to offer political package.

An ethnic problem can never be resolved through military means. Nevertheless, terrorism should be defeated. The government has not changed its prospective with regard to weakening and defeating the LTTE. However, all the parties must cooperate with the government’s moves to achieve peace, which is acceptable to Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities.
