The Communist Party of Sri Lanka explains its stance regarding the government’s move to abrogate the Cease Fire Agreement with the LTTE.
Issuing a media release the party says the truce, which was in force for nearly 6 years, includes both positive and negative characteristics. The LTTE grossly violated the CFA. They assassinated former minister Lakshman Kadirgarmer and tried the lives of the Army Commander and the Defence Secretary while the CFA was in operation.

The organization used the provisions of this document to strengthen their military machine and political propaganda campaign. The Party says the LTTE killed a number of politicians and blocked the campaigns of rival political parties even in government held areas. They procured anti-aircraft weapons and other military hardware during this period. Taking ransom and child conscription are among other offences committed by the LTTE by using the CFA as a shield.
The resort to violence overlooking president Mahinda Rajapakse’s appeals for negotiations by closing the Mavil Aru anicut. The party also recalls how the LTTE forced the truce monitors to withdraw from the areas held by them. However the communist party holds the view that the CFA had been a great mental relief to the Tamil People. It further said that the CFA was not an obstacle to the government’s programme against terrorism.
