The Chamber of Construction Industry (CCI) of Sri Lanka has organised a second construction industry mission to Qatar.
The CEO and secretary general of CCI, Dakshitha Thalgodapitiya, said that the visit has been organised as a follow-up to the successful meeting in November 2007, during which the chamber signed a memorandum of understanding with the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry to make professional services from Sri Lanka available at competitive prices.
The CCI was founded by associations and institutions of construction professionals such as architects, consulting engineers, quantity surveyors, valuers, surveyors, insurers and the national construction association of Sri Lanka, he explained.
Thalgodapitiya said that the CCI is the only chamber to have a corporate membership and as such, has been a prime promoter of public private partnerships, and is now promoting large scale foreign investment.
The trade mission will be comprised of 40 members from 25 organisations, including eight construction contractors capable of undertaking buildings, roads and infrastructure development, one specialist piling contractor, five MEP contractors, two aluminium fabricators, three furniture manufacturers and interior decorators as well as architects, quantity surveyors among other industries.
“The Sri Lankan construction industry can play an important role in the development endeavours of Qatar,â€‌ said Thalgodapitiya, who said that the CCI has invited over 200 representatives of the construction industry in Qatar to a reception at the Mercure Grand Hotel on February 11.
