The election candidates of the political party of former Eastern leader Karuna, Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) have been threatened allegedly by the LTTE, party activists complained.
The TMVP is contesting the Eastern local government polls reportedly in alliance with the United Peoples Freedom Alliance in the Batticaloa district.
TMVP sources said a group claiming to be the members of the Political wing of the LTTE carrying the address “The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Political office, Batticaloa, Thamileelam” had in their letter asked the candidates of the TMVP to think twice before contesting the election.
“It is not going to take too long for us to recapture the Eastern land of Thamileelam from the Sri Lankan government. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to die as traitors on the soil of the motherland” the letter stated, a party activist who requested anonymity said.
