Chairman of the Independent Commission to investigate disappearances, abductions and killings Mahanama Thilakeratne points out that the ability to take action in this regard lies with the police and not with the commission.
He said problems are created as some individuals report incidents to the commission and not to the police. Mr. Thilakeratne said the commission and the human rights commission has only the authority to make recommendations under certain limits.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today, he said the activities of the police with regard to investigating disappearances, abductions and killings has greatly improved.
