Sri Lanka Navy sailors conducting search operations in the Mannar area has uncovered large stocks of arms and ammo during the last two days.

According to the naval sources, in a predawn search conducted in the Thoddaveli, Mannar today (March 7), the sailors have found one T-56 riffle with ammunition, five hand grenades, and 10 detonators, hidden inside a house.

On Wednesdy (March 5), the sailors conducting search operations in the Silawatura area found an underground ammo dump in a captured LTTE camp. According to the navy sources, 329 anti-personnel (AP) mines, 58 hand grenades, 13,357 ammo used for T-56 riffles, and 314 fuses used for AP mines were unearthed from the location.

Navy suspects that the items had been left behind by the LTTE terrorists before the camp fell to the security forces in August 2007.
