Special programme for Woman residents at Welikada prison launched by the SLN Seva Vanitha Unit

A special programme for the welfare of the woman residents at the Welikada prison was launched by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy in the morning today - the 11th March, being par with the International Women’s day that fell on the 08th March. 
 
The president of the Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Ashoka Karannagoda, participating in the event, took initiative to release two residents warded for minor offences. Thereafter donation of some gifts to the children of the warded woman residents was granted along with some donations to those woman residents. The president of the SLN Seva Vanitha Unit took the undertaking to provide some costumes and some necessities required for their stage performance as well. The event was followed by a cultural show in which the residents performed and staged some presentations and the cultural troupe of the Navy too performed.
 
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the SL Navy, Mrs. Ashoka Karannagoda, Commissioner General of the Prisons, Major General (rtd) Vajira Wijegoonawardene, the Chief jailer in charge of the woman residents, Mrs. Kumari Dissanayka.
