The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is planning to introduce a new Bill to Parliament to counter irregularities when recruiting personnel into government service.
JVP Parliamentarian Piyasiri Wijenayake said that this draft Bill will be presented to Parliament as a private member’s bill.
“It is a known fact that many irregularities occur when new recruits are made to the government service. In most cases, it is the politicians who decide which person will be employed. But so far, no proper measure has been taken to combat this. That’s why I am going to bring this Bill to Parliament,” he said.
He added that he has already handed over his proposals to the drafting division of Parliament.
He also emphasised that the JVP is trying to include this in Parliament’s order paper and to get it approved as soon as possible.
“I have notified the authorities about the Bill and I am trying to bring it to Parliament for debate and approval,” he said.
He also said that this Bill would be very effective in preventing the political interference that at present occurs when recruiting staff into government service.
“I have looked into almost all the aspects and there are provisions in the draft that will cover all areas including government departments, boards, corporations and authorities,” the JVP MP stated.
