Minister D.E.W. Gunasekara says the government has taken a number of measures to create an environment where all communities could live in peace.

Public sector employees are being provided with training to acquire proficiency in the two official languages. Security personnel serving in the north and east are providing with special training on the Tamil language. The Minister said there should be an attitudinal change to develop cooperation among various ethnicities.

Minister Gunasekara expressed these views delivering the keynote address of the Special Summit on Pluralism in South Asia held at Mount Lavinia Hotel this morning. Speaking at the summit Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohona said the government is committed to ensure democratic rights of the people living in the north and east while a military solution has been sought to defeat terrorism.
