Defence Secretary pays last respect to slain minister

Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Donald Perera, Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Roshan Gunatilleke and Inspector General of Police Victor Perera paid their last respect to the slain minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle at the minister's private residence in Katana this morning, April 09.

Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa has also condoled to Mrs Fernandopulle and other members of the minister's family.

The Minister of Highways and Road Development Jeyaraj Fernandopulle was assassinated by the LTTE suicide bomber by exploding himself when the minister flagging off a road marathon race organized by the marathon champion K.A Karunarathna in Weliweriya on last Sunday, April 06.

The funeral of the late minister will take place at Katana with full state honours tomorrow, April 10.
