At the press briefing Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said the President has not conceded to the final report of the Group of Eminent Persons led by Mr. Bagawathi.

The President rejected the statements made by the group deviating from its task. The Minister questioned the ability of the group to make statements on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka when a majority of the members of the group visited the island only once or twice. He pointed out that the government invited such a group because of its genuine desire to safeguard human rights.
