The catholic clergy led by Bishop of Mannar Rev. Rayappu Joseph has put forward three preconditions for the restoration of the Our Lady of Madhu statue to the Madhu Shrine in Mannar.

According to one condition, the area of the church should be declared a zone of peace.

Both government troops and the LTTE should give an undertaking in writing to position themselves at least two kilometres away from the shrine, the second condition says.
The third condition is that Tamil refugees who had earlier been staying at the shrine should be allowed to return.

The conditions, agreed upon at a meeting on April 28th, are to be intimated to both the government and the LTTE.
