Leader of the opposition Ranil Wickremasinghe says so far government has not informed him about prorogation of the parliament. He said he does not see any reason to prorogue the parliament at this moment.

President issued extraordinary gazette notification to prorogue parliament from yesterday mid night .Parliament will resume its new session 5th of June.

At a media briefing held in the parliament complex this morning the Opposition Leader introduced this prorogation act which suppresses the powers of the Parliament.

Meanwhile JVP said they are against the decision to prorogue the Parliament.

JVP front liner and Parliamentarian Anuara Kumara Dissanayake said Parliament was met only two dates in April and only a single day in this month. It will reduce MP’s time who wants to highlight public grievances.

Reacting the Opposition’s charges Media Minister Laxman Yapa Abeyawardana said the President has been entrusted powers under the constitution to end a parliamentary session. He adds that the Parliament will meet again within a month.

The Minister at a media briefing in Colombo today said adjournment of Parliament will not abolish the committee on higher portfolios or the selecting committee. He added however the other committees will be abolished, but said these committees could be reappointed.
