PAFFREL said that the forthcoming elections won't be free and fair as TNA is not contesting. They also claimed that there is no conducive environment for free campaigning and 61 complaints were lodged so far.
It  has issued the pre-election monitoring report of eastern provincial council election. Deputy executive director of the PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said in a media briefing held in Colombo this morning the monitoring of the election will be carried out in three stages.

18 political parties and 60 independent groups are contesting the election. The special feature of the election is that all recognised parties are contesting the election. Observations of the foreign monitors  have also been included in this report. Over one million people are eligible for voting. Out of 22 thousand postal voters, 80 percent have cast their votes.  1070 polling centers will be set up to conduct the election.  More than 2000 monitors are scheduled to deploy for monitoring.
