Home Guard shot dead in Buttala

A Home Guard was reported shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on Monday (May 19), while on duty at the 38th mile post along the Buttala- Katharagama main road at 10.45p.m.

The victim identified as Sumith Sanjeewa, 26, was serving attached to the Buttala Police and has succumbed to injuries, while been rushed to the Buttala hospital, Police sources said.

Police and security forces personnel are now engaged in search operations in the area, the sources further said.
