Troops in Mannar gains more ground; 17 terrorists killed in fierce fighting

Troops operating on the Mannar battlefront continued to attack terror defences and to push own defences further into the Wanni territory. According to the military reports received so far from Mannar, 17 terrorists were killed during yesterday's clashes (June 25) .

In the general area Mullikandal, troops advanced 600m ahead from their earlier positions amidst heavy resistance from the terrorists during morning hours. Radio monitoring units revealed that 6 terrorists were killed in this incident. Also, 4 soldiers suffered injuries.

At Marattikannadi , troops confronted with a group of terrorists around 6.20 am. One soldier suffered injuries in this attack while enemy casualties were not known.

At Kilavanakaddu troops attacked an LTTE bunker defence around 9.35 am. Monitored radio transmission confirmed that 3 terrorists were killed and 3 others wounded in this incident.

In a similar incident at Marattikannadi around 12.30 pm, ground sources confirmed that 5 terrorists were killed and 8 others wounded.

Meanwhile, snipers deployed in the Minnanivanchan area claimed to have killed 3 terrorists around 2.15 pm.
