The Supreme Court yesterday reserved its order in respect of the rights violation application filed by M. Azath Salley, the former Deputy Mayor of Colombo, against the Colombo Municipal Council.

The petition said that the CMC, the Mayor of Colombo, the Municipal Commissioner and a few other respondents had granted permission to erect hoardings in the city of Colombo without calling for bids. The petitioner explained that this mala-fide practice caused grave financial loss to the CMC. The petitioner requested the Court to order the authorities to dismantle all unauthorised hoardings erected in Colombo.

J. C. Weliamuna, instructed by G. G. Arulpragasam appeared for the petitioner. Uditha Egalahewa appeared for the CMC. The Bench comprised, Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, Justice N. G. Amaratunga and Justice J. de S. Balapatabandi.
