New IGP calls on Secretary Defence

The newly appointed Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickremaratne called on the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence this morning, July 7.

Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickremaratne assumed duties as the 31st Inspector General of Police on July 1. Mr. Wickremaratne joined the Police Force in 1974 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) in 1983, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in 1989 and to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in 1993.
