Wellawatte Police informed the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate that actress Anarkali Akarsha had returned to the country and she had agreed to make a statement in connection with the anticipatory bail filed by Western Provincial Councillor Duminda Silva.

Following the submissions of the Wellawatte Police, Additional Magistrate Ms. Dharshika Wimalasiri postponed the inquiry for July 25.

The Wellawatte Police also informed court that on the direction of the Attorney General, it was conducting investigation into an alleged complaint by Anarkali Akarsha Jayathileka on July 3 of abduction at Swarna Road, Wellawatte on July 3 .

When the anticipatory bail application was taken up for inquiry, the Wellawatte Police OIC, Mangala Dehideniya said they had investigated into Anarkali’s complaint to the Kollupitiya police. They had recorded the statements from Sujeewa Dharmawickrama, Mahendra Perera, Anuradha Jayasinghe and the residents in the vicinity.

The police also said they had tried to record a statement from an important witness, Mahesh Bandara and he was informed to call over at the Police station to record a statement but he has failed to do so.

Informing about Anarkali the police said the owner of the residence at Rosmead Place at which address Anarkali claimed to have resided had said she had gone abroad. Further inquiries from the Immigration and Emigration Department had confirmed that she had left the country and had returned on July 15.

The Police had contacted her on her mobile phone and she had told them that she would make a statement after obtaining legal instructions from her lawyers.

Denzil Gunaratne PC who appeared on the instruction of Nalin Dissanayake for Anarkali said she had left the country for her own safety and now she had returned to the country.

On a complaint filed by her, the Colombo Magistrate had ordered Duminda Silva not to harass Anarkali, but he had violated the said order and had allegedly abducted her.

Daya Perera PC appearing for Duminda Silva said there was no evidence to prove the alleged abduction and to allow the anticipatory bail application.

Following the submissions of the parties, the Magistrate ordered the Police to file a report in court on July 25.
