OIC remanded in schoolgirl sex abuse case

Kalutara Magistrate H. Anura Seneviratna ordered the OIC Kalutara North Police Rex Janson to be remanded till July 30 2008, for the alleged offence of sexual harassment on a 14-year-old schoolgirl. The Magistrate ordered him to be provided special security.
W. D. V. Wijesena, the Chief Inspector of the Women and Children’s Bureau told Court that the Attorney-General had instructed that there was sufficient reasons to believe that the girl had been sexually harassed. More suspects involved in the incident are to be arrested and produced before Courts.

The investigations into the complaint were conducted by the ASP, Kalutara Division, but later the Chief Magistrate ordered that the investigations be assigned to the Women and Children’s Bureau.

Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate ordered the Prison Authority of Kalutara to grant facilities to the officers of the Women’s and Children’s Bureau to record a statement of OIC Rex Janson.

The Chief Magistrate ordered the Chief Inspector of the Women’s and Children’s Bureau W. D. V. Wijeratna to record a statement from suspect OIC.

He also ordered 20y-year-old Gunasekara Arachchilage Madusanka to be remanded till July 30.

He has had a secret love affair with the girl.

It was said, in a statement made by the girl, the suspect OIC and her fiancee had sexually harassed her.

The Probation Officer, Ranjith Tissera, submitting a report to the Curts said the girl should be given a school with residential facilities.

According to the request of the Probation Officer, the Magistrate granted approval for the girl to be admitted to a school in Colombo where there are residential facilities.

Further investigations will be conducted on July 30.
