Sri Lanka ready to conducts 15th SAARC Summit

image Sri Lankan security forces have already setup a tightest security blanket to protect SAARC dignitaries during the forth-coming SAARC Summit. The relevant authorities to achieve positive results have finalized security and other arrangements, said local political analysts. The Police said  12,000 police officers backed by the armed forces and home guards will form one of the largest ever security dragnets and several security measures from searches to surveillance have already gone into place in the city and suburbs with the authorities taking no chances.Apart from the local security setup, hundreds of foreign police and security forces personnel, largely from India are also listed to arrive in the country shortly to provide security cover for their respective heads of state or government with the coordination of the local authorities. Surveillance at the Bandaranaike International Airport has also been stepped up mainly to monitor persons entering the country ahead of the summit. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the 15th SAARC Summit will commence on Sunday at the BMICH, Colombo.SAARC officials will hold their meetings from Sunday to 0th July and the SAARC Foreign Ministers would meet on 31st of this month and their meetings would be finished on 1st of August.Heads of the SAARC states will attend their 15th Summit on 2nd of August and it would be ended on 2nd of August, said Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.Afghanistan is the recent member country, which attended the SAARC umbrella, will attend the conference.“Eight SAARC leaders will attend this year’s conference, said the Foreign Minister at a press briefing held in Colombo on Saturday.Seven industrial countries will attend as the observers and China and Iran try to obtain membership of the SAARC, said the ministry sources.Unofficial meetings among the SAARC heads will be held at the Parliament complex. Earlier unofficial meetings of the SAARC Summits were held at luxury hotels at the respective venues.“This is a great change of this year’s summit, told the foreign minister.
