Temporary shelter for the displaced in Vakarai

Temporary make shift shelters have been constructed for the people displaced from the LTTE controlled areas to the Government control areas, informed the Batticaloa GA S. Punniamoorthy. The GA said that he is making an effort to settle them in the government lands in the area, and the lands belonging to the GOSL is being identified with the help of the Government and Non-Governmental organizations in Batticaloa. 76,000 persons belonging to 19,000 families are being sheltered in 6 District Secretariats. The GOSL is trying its best to provide all the facilities for these people and food and essential items are being sent from Colombo, said Mr. M.S. Jayasinghe, the Secretary of Nation Building and Development Ministry.
