Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse will attend the Beijing Olympics, a senior government official said on Sunday.

A senior official said on condition of anonymity that Rajapakse will go to Beijing for the Olympic Games, but his detailed schedule can not be disclosed for security reason.

Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Dawei, who is in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo to attend the 15th SAARC (South Asian Association Regional Cooperation) Summit, told the president on Saturday that the Chinese government welcomes his presence at the Beijing Olympics.

Wu also wished a success for Sri Lanka's Olympic team in Beijing.
