The Geological and Mining Bureau says it is unable to declare the exact cause for the tremor, which occurred around 5.40 this morning in the southern region of the country.

A spokesman of the bureau said that it recorded only a slight vibration at the geological measurement equipment set up in Pallekele. The possibility of having aftershocks is at an extremely low level. The tremor was felt in Tangalla, Beliatta, Weeraketiya and Kaluwella.
