JVP demo attacked in Nivithigala
UPFA supporters attacked a JVP demonstration in the Nivithigala town on Sunday morning, eyewitnesses said.
The demonstration was being led by JVP's Sabaragamuwa Chief Ministerial candidate Chameera Koswatta in protest of the recent attacks by UPFA supporters in the Ratnapura district.
Eyewitnesses said that the Police had taken no action to prevent the attack carried out by supporters of Minister Premalal Jayasekara.
JVP members have come under a series of attacks in the recent weeks. The JVP has identified WPGD 5899 and 51-5652 as the numbers of two vehicles used by the attackers and provided that information to Police, but to no avail, he added.
According to latest reports, police have arrested five JVP activists in connection with the incident.
