TMVP leader Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman said yesterday that his party had put plans in place to expand its political work to Colombo and Wanni while reorganizing the party.

At a meeting held in Batticaloa last Saturday, the TMVP made certain changes to revamp the party to face political challenges in the future.

Karuna, the LTTE’s former eastern commander, said  that his politburo decided at this discussion to appoint eastern province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan (Pillayan) as the party’s National Organizer.

Eastern Provincial Councillor Edwin Chrisnanandarajah alias Pradeep Master has been appointed the party secretary, and Jeyam the treasurer. Besides, Batticaloa Mayor Sivageetha Prabhakaran is the TMVP’s new organizer for the Batticaloa district and Bharati for Ampara and Markan for Trincomalee.

Similarly, Mangalan Master who is contesting the upcoming election to the North Central Provincial council on the UPFA ticket has been chosen for the post in the Polonnaruwa district.

Amman said the party members also reviewed the progress of the eastern provincial council during the last few months, and decided to ask for more financial assistance from the government for a development drive.

He also said the salaries given to local government members should be increased while providing them with enhanced facilities.  The TMVP currently controls nine local bodies in the Batticaloa district.

“We decided to start our political work in Colombo where there is a sizeable population of eastern Tamils. Similarly, our party will expand its political network to Wanni as well,” Karuna said.

He said that a close rapport would also be developed by him with other political parties in the country under the new re-organization process.
