A protest demonstration of the Unemployed Graduates Union came under the attack of the police anti riot squad today (August 12th).

Demanding jobs promised by the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’, the graduates staged a protest demonstration in front of the Fort Railway Station before marching towards Temple Trees to hand over a letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A large number of unemployed graduates from the several districts in the country joined the demonstration.

Convener of the Unemployed Graduates Union, Dhammika Bandara said that they intended to hand over the letter to the President as several governments including the present regime failed to them despite promising to do so.

However, if the government keeps on suppressing and assaulting the unemployed graduates in such a manner, they would be compelled to take organized measures to stop the President, he added.
