Several houses were damaged due to gunfire during a clash between UPFA and UNP supporters that took place in Elbanapalle junction in Ratnapura on Monday afternoon.

- The incident took place when some of the UNP supporters were putting posters of their candidate Nanada Muruththettuwe over the already pasted posters of the UPFA candidate Janaka Wakkumbura.

The verbal clash worsened when a white jeep belonging to non-cabinet ministers came to the spot with supporters of the UPFA who joined the scene with swords and guns. The supporters have been firing to the sky and chasing away the UNP supporters with death threats. This clash ended up damaging several houses in the area.

The UNP supporters too have come to the spot in vehicles and used guns to control the clash.
