Application against CFA leave granted
The Supreme Court yesterday granted special leave for the application filed by JHU, JVP and Sinhala Maha Sabawa against the court appeal order that rejected issuing notices on the former Prime Minister, Ranil Wickramasinghe, then cabinet ministers and LTTE leader Prabakaran in connection with the writ application filed challenging the signing of cease fire agreement between Ranil Wickramasinghe and LTTE.
The bench granting leave for the application raised a quest whether both the parties of the agreement are abiding by the agreement. The important matter to take into consideration is whether the Prime Minister has a right to sign such an agreement, the bench observed. The case was postponed for November 30th.
At the same time LTTE leader Prabakaran in his speech on 26.11.2006 said that the ceasefire agreement is dead and it is not valid any more as the last rites were performed by the Mahinda government for the ceasefire agreement. Hence we determine on this day to proceed on our own towards the separate state of Tamil Eelam.
LTTE spokesman Rasiah Punitharuban (Ilanthirayan) in an interview to the LTTE television answering the question, whether their aerial attack was a violation of the ceasefire agreement, he said nobody cares about the cease fire agreement.
