The government has decided to employ the 60 per cent of the newly passing out doctors from the Jaffna University in the government hospitals of the eastern province.

This decision was taken in the second meeting of awakening scheme of the east held in the defense ministry yesterday. All the activities taken forward and to be taken by the ministries in the east were taken up for discussion during this meeting. Special health projects to be implemented in the east were also discussed in the meeting. The health ministry has decided to put up a hospital in each district, setting up nursing schools and primary health centers in the east. Hence 60 per cent of the new doctors passing out from Jaffna University are to be appointed to the eastern province.

Actions are being taken to develop the rural hospitals and to provide them with resources. A united work project of 32 ministries is being initiated and to complete the projects within 180 days under the scheme Awakening of the East is underway.

The public must cooperate to achieve this goal, said Minister Karu Jayasooriya.
