Leaders of all political parties are determined to find a lasting solution to the national issue. A decision to this effect was taken at the party leaders’ meeting held yesterday at the PM’s office, presided over by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake.

This meeting was convened to discuss about the proposals put forward by certain parties which are inconsistent to the proposals of the All Party Representative Committee. Several controversial issues were taken for discussion yesterday, it is learnt. A final draft would only be prepared after reaching a consensus of all the political parties.

There is difference of opinion among southern political parties as to whether the devolution of power should be under a unitary system or a united system of the government. Drafting a final resolution is being delayed as there is no consensus at present. Following this disadvantageous situation an All Party Representatives Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
