President highlights the importance of speedily enforcing the global convention on terrorism.

President Mahinda Rajapakse has emphasised the importance of speedily enforcing the global convention on terrorism. The President highlighted this at a press conference held in Turkey today after talks with Turkish President Abdul Gul. The visiting President observed that both Sri Lanka and Turkey suffer the terrorist menace. He observed that several Turkish projects are implemented in Sri Lanka. These include projects pertaining to information technology and manufacturing of medical equipment. President Rajapakse highlighted the need of exchanging high level trade delegations. The President also briefed the media in Turkey of the present situation in Sri Lanka. He stated that the government remains committed to a political solution which will be steered through the all party representative committee. President also invited the Turkish leader to visit Sri Lanka.

Earlier today, a discussion took place between President Mahinda Rajapakse and Turkish President Abdul Gul. The issues discussed included direct flights between Turkey and Sri Lanka, enhancing trade relations, cooperation on counter terrorism and tourism promotion. The two leaders signed agreements pertaining to the commencement of direct flights and the exchange of criminals for legal purposes.
