Sri Lanka Army 59 Division soldiers extended their full domination over the Periyakulam hamlet, situated 4 km East of strategically located Nadunkerni town this evening (Dec 2).

According to the defence sources in the battlefield, soldiers continuing their westward thrust from Otiyamalai advanced for about 1 km distance eliminating all LTTE hideouts up to the Periyakulam hamlet.

Defence observers are in the view that the Army's counter terrorist operations in the area will greatly help the civilians under terror clutches to move into the government controlled areas.

Meanwhile, troops of the same division marching along the eastward axis were engaged in heavy confrontations with the terrorists in the Alampil area during daytime. Troops have so far found a body of a slain LTTE cadre along with weapons. Also, army elites deployed in the forward areas have confirmed shooting down of two LTTE cadres.
