Cordon and Search operation in Hambantota

Police has arrested twenty-seven persons during a search operation conducted at Hambantota from last evening until this morning. Those arrested are suspects who had been involved in the sale of illicit liquor, violating traffic rules etc.

Further, the police are engaged in searching the residences in the town, said Kalinga de Silva, the Inspector of the Hambantota police.

Meanwhile, 70 persons have been taken into custody in a search operation conducted in Nugegoda last night. 305 houses were searched. In addition about 8,020 people were questioned.
