Civilians injured in LTTE hand grenade attack - Batticaloa and Jaffna

Six civilians were reported injured in an LTTE hand grenade attack at Navaladi in Valachchenai, today  at 2:45 p.m.

According to Valachchenai Police, an LTTE operative has hurled a hand grenade at a vehicle passing along the A-15 main road, near the 36th kilometer post at Navaladi.

The injured civilians were immediately taken to the general Hospital at Polonnaruwa, Police sources said. Valachchenai Police along with area security forces launched a search operation immediately, the sources further added.

 

Meanwhile Two including a civilian sustained injuries when an alleged LTTE terrorist hurled a hand grenade in Kalviyankadu, Kopay in Jaffna, today  at 11:45 a.m.

The hand grenade exploded close to an Army picket point also causing injuries to a bypassing woman. Tension prevailed in the area, as the explosion took place at a public market venue where many people were gathered as it was Sunday, security sources said.

The injured woman Subramaniyam Sugandini was admitted to the Teaching Hospital - Jaffna, while the Army soldier was admitted to the Military base hospital in Palaly.

Security forces conducted search operations in the area for LTTE elements attempting minor scale attacks to disrupt normalcy, military sources said.
