Tamil Nationalist Movement leader Pala Nedumaran and MDMK leader Vaiko and their supporters were arrested for attempting to hold condolence rally in memory of Suppar Paramu Thamilselvan, who was killed in an air strike. The Tamil Nadu government banned the condolence rally.

The MDMK supporters gathered near Manro Statue in Chennai under the Chairmanship of Vaiko and Nedumaran last evening around 4.30 p.m. They raised slogans supporting the LTTE and attempted to proceed as a procession. The police obstructed and arrested all of them.

The police snatched away the microphone from Vaiko when he started to address the supporters. A number of 300 people including Nedumaran, Vaiko, Anaimuthu, Periyar Communist Party Secretary and Maniyaragan the Secretary of Tamil National Communist Party were taken into custody and will remain in detention for fifteen days.
