The LTTE had not complied with its commitment to stop child recruitment, said the special representative of United Nations Allen Rock.

I had discussions with the LTTE representatives and the LTTE gave an assurance that they would work with UNICEF, commencing immediately to accelerate the release of all the children from their ranks

The LTTE was reminded of its obligation to ensure that military assets are not placed in areas where civilians especially where children can be at risk.

He stressed the importance of having international monitors to ensure that the children affected by the conflict are protected, he said this in the press conference held at the UN Colombo office yesterday evening.
