A feeling towards the country should be created in the youths: President

The President opined that the exercise can be undertaken through films. He pledged government’s maximum support for such a programme. President Rajapakse said no one remained on a positive note in the past due to the defeats experienced. But today the situation is changing. He said he saw as a responsibility of the artistes to fashion the society to heroism.

The President was speaking at a meeting of the directors of the film “Abba”, which is based on the life of Prince “Pandukabaya”. The function was held at the invitation of the President. The meeting was summoned to shower his blessings on all who are making a significant contribution to this massive production.

Film Director Jackson Anthony giving his views said they were planning to undertake shooting on the film at Angamuwa in August. It was during such a situation that the President summoned them to Temple Trees. Receiving his blessings is an inducement to them. Jackson Anthony noted that it was an exemplary move by the President and may also be a historic event.

Meanwhile, Shyam Benagal, reputed Indian Film Director met President Rajapakse at Temple Trees. They exchanged views on the film “The Buddha”. It will be produced in collaboration with the Light of Asia Foundation. It is also planned to produce the film “Sand of the Thambapanni”, which is another joint production between the two countries. Shyam Benagal also discussed this production with the President. The shooting will take place in Sri Lanka. The MOU in this respect is to be signed soon.
