Minister Jayaraj Fenanadopulle

The Sinhalese will not be settled in Tamil areas. The government is not making any attempts towards it, said Minister of Highways Jayaraj Fernandopulle, at weekly press briefing held at the Information Department.

Some Tamil newspapers have published news items to state that the government has plans to reverse the ratio between the communities to 70 Sinhalese and 30 Tamils in the Tamil areas. There is no truth in this. No one needs to be concerned about this. The government will not engage itself in this sort of practices, the Minister said.

There is no food shortage in Jaffna. But the prices are high as the LTTE collects tax from the businessmen. The Indian politician who attempted to come to Jaffna with food items by boats was arrested in India. This is a stunt to enhance his political image among the public, he said.
