Karunaratne Divulgane New Governor of the NCP

Popular singer Karunaratne Divulgane was sworn in as the Governor of the North Centre Province at Temple Trees this afternoon (13) before President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Mr. Divulgane was appointed to this position by the President.

The President who addressed the gathering after swearing in said that he was happy to appoint a representative of artist, peasant, and worker fraternity to the post of governor for the first time.

Mr. Divulgane who halts from Rajarata said that he expects to do his utmost for the benefit of the people of Rajarata.

Messrs Mithreepala Sirisena, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mangala Samaraweera, Governor of the Western Province Alavi Moulana, former governor of the North Central province Dr. Jagath Balasooriya, Rohana Weerasinghe, Ven. Rambukkana Siddhartha and few other artists were seen at this swearing in ceremony.

The Practice before this was to appoint Senior Politicians, Senior Military officials, Senior Administrative officials as governors. This is the first occasion that a Singer was appointed governor.
