Victor Perera new IGP

Police Senior Deputy Inspector General Victor Perera was appointed as the new Police Chief by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a ceremony held at Temple Trees yesterday.The present Police Chief Chandra Fernando is due to retire on Monday and DIG Perera will assume duties as the 30th Police Chief on Thursday.DIG Perera -- the father of two sons and two daughters -- joined the police force in 1974 as an Assistant Superintendent and holds an Economics Special Degree from the Colombo University. Senior DIGs Bodhi Liyanage, Sirisena Herath, Kumarasiri Gamage and Jayantha Wickremaratne who joined the police force the same year as DIG Perera, were also in line for the post of IGP.
