The troops have unearthed a surface to Air missile, bullets and a large haul of weapons during a search operation conducted in many places in the Batticaloa district for the last few days.

The missile is of ‘Igla’ make and it is the first time such a weapon is discovered according to military sources.  A haul of weapons well packed in polythene bags was unearthed at Tikilivaddai near Thoppigala and a lot of hunters’ guns were unearthed at Miantota.

Meanwhile, in the jungle area of Naragamulla a large quantity of burnt and buried weapons was discovered. The troops from 232 Regiment and Commandos are continuing their search operations. The troops reliably understand that the Tigers before fleeing from Thoppigala had buried their weapons in the jungle area.
