Tamil student on hunger strike for 20 days in UK
LONDON: A Tamil student on hunger strike in front of the British Parliament demanding an end to the Sri Lankan military operations on LTTE may have
only a week to live, a doctor attending on him has warned.
Prarameswaran Subramaniam (28) has refused food for 20 days in protest against the Sri Lankan Government's action.
Speaking from the makeshift camp opposite Westminster, doctor Sellappah Nallanathar, of St Peter's Hospital in Surrey, yesterday said that Subramaniam's vital organs would begin to fail if he maintained his fast for another week.
"It's going to be difficult," Nallanathar said. "I'm asking him to take small sips of water and it's the water that is keeping him going. Even with the water this morning we had to try a few times before he would take it. If he doesn't want to (take food) we can't force him. He's determined to carry on."
