Emergency passed

The motion to extend the state of emergency has been passed by a majority of 88 votes.
 103 votes were cast in favour of the motion and 15 votes rejected it. The JVP voted in favour of the motion together with the government. Only the TNA voted against the motion and the UNP abstained from voting.

Making a special statement at the end of parliamentary proceedings speaking W.J.M. Lokubandara said a special party leaders’ meeting held on Tuesday  discussed at length the security provided to MPs. He said the Prime Minister took the responsibility of acting in this connection in keeping with assessments of the degree of security threat to each MP.
