Increasing fuel prices in the global market have posed a negative effect on electricity generation.

The ministry of Power and Energy says the increasing fuel prices in the global market have posed a negative effect   on the country’s electricity generation.  65 percent of electricity generation per day is done by using fuel.
 The daily electricity consumption in the country is 29 million units.

Electricity consumption during peak hours increases to 1900 megawatts and all the diesel power generation plants are operated during this period to meet this requirement.
One third of fuel imported to the country is use to generate electricity.
The ministry says there is a possibility of increasing the production cost of an electricity unit with a barrel of fuel reaching 100-dollar mark in the world market.
