From  Jayaweera Bandara Atapattu
Administrative problems have led to a decision to terminate the regional services of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Central Provincial Council member Sanjeewa Kaviratne (UNP) warned of this impending move at a recent meeting of the council.

The hill country broadcasting service of the SLBC, the Kandurata Radio Service has been producing several social, religious and educational programmes.

Kaviratne urged the council to request the Minister of Media and information to continue with the important regional broadcasting service of the State-run SLBC.

SLBC officials of the Kandurata Service told The Island that the service was running at a loss due to overstaffing. Instead of 10 or 12 administrative and operational staff needed to run the service, 57 were employed causing a loss to the SLBC.
