Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP and International Affairs Committee Secretary Vijitha Herath has denied claims that JVP supporters and sympathisers in Japan have officially informed them that they would no longer support the party.

He made this claim referring to reports that Saman Priyankara, the Organiser of the JVP Committee in Japan, had sent a letter stating that they would stop their donations to the party.

“We have no special committee or branch in Japan,” Herath said. “Of course, there are JVP sympathisers in Japan but they are not grouped together. So, this letter sent by an individual cannot be called a letter sent by a JVP branch or association.”
The JVP MP said that although they had received a letter from Priyankara, he was not the JVP organiser in Japan.

“Priyankara was a sympathiser of the party and he has withdrawn his support, but that does not mean that all our supporters in Japan have stopped supporting us,” he said. “Priyankara is only one among thousands so his departure is not a big blow to the party,” he added.
