India has decided to supply 5,500 tons of goods to the North East people who are suffering from food shortage.

These goods will be transported as soon as the Sri Lanka government arranges the ships and distributed among the North East people, Deputy High Commissioner of India in Colombo A. Manickam said.

India will send the essentially needed rice sugar and milk foods of about 4500 metric tons to Jaffna. These goods will go to Kankesanturai directly.

1,000 metric tons of essential foods will be sent to the affected people of Vakarai in the East. These goods will be sent to Trincomalee directly, he said further.
